Venice Family Clinic CEO Elizabeth Benson Forer issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin:

“Derek Chauvin’s reckless disregard for George Floyd’s life has been called out by 12 courageous jurors by its name – murder. The verdict today is a step toward justice and accountability in our policing systems. But as long as Black, Indigenous and People of Color fear for themselves and their children getting into a car at night or walking along the streets of our cities, there will not be true justice in this country.

May this long overdue moment in our nation’s troubled history of racial discrimination become a catalyst for that justice and the necessary changes needed to create equity for all in health care, housing, education and so much more.”
