When Mike and Marlene Rapkin moved to Venice from the San Fernando Valley, they quickly saw a community struggling under the weight of rising homelessness and health care inequities. For a couple who have spent decades turning their passion for justice into action, this wasn’t something they could ignore.
“Living here really opened our eyes,” Marlene says. “We saw the challenges right in front of us and felt compelled to do our part. Partnering with Venice Family Clinic allowed us to turn that urgency into real, tangible impact.”
What began as a ride-along with the Clinic’s mobile health unit quickly grew into a partnership rooted in advocacy and a shared vision of ensuring care reaches people where they are — physically and emotionally.
Initially they supported a new mobile unit to provide essential medical, mental health and social support services in the field. Next, they turned their attention to the Inglewood Crenshaw Children and Family Center to help the Clinic tackle systemic barriers affecting families every day.
“What inspires us is how Venice Family Clinic is always looking forward, finding people who need help and asking, ‘How do we reach them?’” Marlene shared.
Reflecting on their partnership with Venice Family Clinic, the Rapkins feel grateful to be a part of an organization they feel is uniquely poised to tackle Los Angeles’ growing challenges.
“Venice Family Clinic creates connections and hope for people who often feel forgotten. That’s why we keep giving. That’s why we believe in this work.”
