On May 19, 2023, the City of Los Angeles Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department, along with the Commission on the Status of Women, named Evonne Biggs, Venice Family Clinic’s homeless services and health equity program manager, a Pioneer Woman for her dedication to solving homelessness.
Biggs was one of two women nominated by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and one of 19 women working to solve homelessness in Los Angeles honored this year.
“Through her work with Venice Family Clinic, [Evonne] has led the successful work and expansion of street medicine teams, mobile clinics and other tools that are used for street medicine and training. Evonne is leading the way for new response as it relates to homelessness with compassion, care and urgency,” said Capri Maddox, executive director of the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department, at the awards ceremony.
