Venice Family Clinic issues statement on Supreme Court’s Affordable Care Act decision

June 17, 2021

VENICE – (June 17, 2021) – Following is a statement from Anita Zamora, Venice Family Clinic’s deputy director and chief operations officer, regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today to dismiss a challenge to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“The court’s 7-2 decision is a big victory for Venice Family Clinic’s patients.

“Medi-Cal expansion, which was facilitated by the ACA, allowed us to increase our investment in health care programs and services by more than 80%. This has meant we can offer more comprehensive care to our patients: expanded dental and mental health services, on-site pharmacies, increased preventative care options and more. It’s also meant we provide this high quality health care to 34% more people than we did before the ACA.

“The ACA also substantially increased funding in the Community Health Center Fund, further empowering our nation’s community health centers that serve 1 in 11 people in the U.S., to expand and enhance care for the people in need they serve.

“Venice Family Clinic will continue to advocate to strengthen and expand the ACA so that everyone has access to affordable and comprehensive health care. COVID-19 has made it clear that the health of each person – regardless of their income, immigration status or insurance coverage – helps determine the health of all people.”
