DESCRIPTION:MOTHERHOOD\, UNFRAMED: Art and Dialogue on Advancing Birth Equity & Community Birthwork\nJoin us for an intimate gathering of patrons\, community members and art lovers as we explore how stories of Black motherhood\, told through art\, connect to culturally responsive doula care\, maternal health and family wellness. \nThe event will include: \n\na walkthrough of Giving You the Best That I Got at Leimert Park gallery Art+Practice\, led by exhibition curator Dominique Clayton\na panel conversation with curator Clayton and two experts from Venice Family Clinic: Fanta Bayoh\, APRN FNP-C\, and Cindy Lopez\, an Indigenous birth worker who leads the Clinic’s new community-based doula training program at the Inglewood Crenshaw Children and Family Center\n\nRegistration is required and space is limited. Please click here to secure your spot by March 2nd. \n\nPANELISTS:\nFanta Bayoh\, APRN\, FNP-C \n \nFanta Bayoh is a native of Los Angeles\, CA\, and a graduate of the University of California\, Los Angeles\, and the Yale University School of Nursing. She previously worked at the Institute for Family Health in New York\, NY\, and at Keck Medicine of USC in Los Angeles\, CA. While at Keck Medicine\, she earned the honor of Nurse Practitioner of the Year (2022). She currently works at Venice Family Clinic in Los Angeles\, a leading community health center delivering care to over 45\,000 patients annually. \nDominique Clayton \n \nDominique Clayton is an arts consultant\, writer\, and gallerist born and raised in Los Angeles. Clayton is the founder of Dominique Gallery\, a storefront and pop-up exhibition and online program which showcases and advises emerging artists with a focus on marginalized artists and artists raising families. In addition to the gallery\, Clayton also serves on the curatorial and programming committee of Destination Crenshaw\, a forthcoming outdoor art museum and arts program based in the historic Crenshaw community of Los Angeles. Clayton previously worked as Manager of the Founding Director’s office at The Broad and later as an interim director at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery. \nCindy Olivares Lopez \n \nCindy Lopez (Rarámuri\, Tepehuan\, Maya)\, is mother of two. She brings culturally rooted care that honors both ancestral wisdom and evidence-based practices. Her work centers reproductive justice\, trauma-informed care\, bodily autonomy\, and community based-healing. \nWith over 15 years of experience\, Cindy has supported families as an indigenous birth worker\, lactation educator\, midwife assistant\, placenta encapsulation\, and a mentor to teenage parents. Cindy has worked as an independent bilingual community doula and in collaboration with organizations\, helping to facilitate childbirth education\, newborn care\, lactation support\, and doula workshops. \nCurrently\, Cindy is developing and launching the Community Based Doula Program at Venice Family Clinic. She serves as the Doula Job Training Community Coordinator and continues to support families in her community.
