Chronic Pain Clinic
Among the most special aspects of integrative medicine at Venice Family Clinic’s Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center is our Chronic Pain Clinic, where non-traditional therapies like acupuncture, yoga, feldenkrais, chiropractic care, and osteopathy give our patients an alternative to costly painkillers or over-the-counter medicines with harmful side effects. These unique approaches to patient healing and well-being combine conventional medical care with alternative treatment modalities, and are supplemented by mental health support and wellness education.
Obesity Prevention & Weight Management
Venice Family Clinic’s programs involve the entire family in making changes to improve and support healthy habits in the home, increasing the odds of long-term success. As a part of our intensive hands-on obesity prevention and weight management classes, parents with children ages 2-4 learn realistic intervention strategies and develop skills to improve nutrition and fitness behaviors in the home. Families with children ages 5-12 discover effective ways to improve nutrition, increase physical activity and make long-term lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy weight during a multi-week, interactive course based upon curriculum developed by Kaiser Permanente.
Health & Wellness Promotion
We believe in empowering our patients with knowledge through programming that covers chronic disease management and prevention, nutrition and fitness, parenting and more. At Venice Family Clinic, coaching and peer networking also reinforce healthy choices through individual counseling sessions and support groups.
Clinical Interventions:Providers and clinical staff work with our patients to encourage and develop behaviors that encourage healthy futures. During visits, health habits and goals are discussed and progress is tracked. Health educators and trained community volunteers offer a robust schedule of nutrition and fitness in the Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center classroom. In addition, patients are connected with no- or low-cost fitness resources in their neighborhoods, and “use-anywhere” tools such as jump ropes and pedometers are frequently given to patients in need.
Environmental Interventions: The Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center is specifically designed to create an environment that supports patient healing, healthy lifestyles and overall well-being. These elements include an LED screen promoting healthy behaviors in the waiting area, health education literature in Spanish and English throughout the Center, informative health education displays, and schedules of classes placed prominently in key patient locations.
